The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) established the Central Institute for Temperate Horticulture (CITH) in the year 1994. The institute is located in the suitable atmosphere of Srinagar in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The institute spreads over an area of 84 acres. Srinagar is the main campus along with regional campuses located at Mukteshwar and Dirang.

AIM

The aim of the institute is to increase the production and productivity of temperate horticultural crops by carrying out research activities.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Some of the research activities carried out are generation and identification of information, development of high yielding varieties and hybrids, research development of fruits, nuts and vegetables, efficient cropping systems and appropriate production, protection technologies, production of quality seeds and planting material, etc.

COURSES OFFERED

The institute offers agricultural trainings, internships to the students pursuing Ph. D. and M. Sc. Degree. The institute successfully provides training to the farmers regarding the crops development.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The student who has attained bachelor’s degree in the science stream is eligible for admission. Farmers are eligible for the training sessions and workshops.

FEES STRUCTURE

The fees are minimal and low and range from INR 20,000 to INR 50,000.
