CMC Admission 2024 | Christian Medical College UG & PG Course Last Date

Christian Medical College, popularly known as CMC, Vellore located in Tamil Nadu, India. It is a private medical school, research institute and hospital, run by a Christian community. This college is a constituent college  under the affiliation of the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, founded in 1900 by Dr. Ida Scudder, an American missionary. When Ida Scudder was called back to India to look after her ill mother, she was shocked to see the lack of medical services for women and children. Due to culture and traditional values male doctors were not allowed to treat women, which eventually led to the death of many women, making the average life expectancy of an Indian only 25 years. Hence she went back to America and came back as a doctor with an aim to treat women and educate women to become doctors and nurses. She started setting up dispensaries and clinics in villages, training women to become nurses in 1909 and began training women as physicians in 1918 with the Union Mission Medical School for Women. Due to a change in the Government policy, Dr. Ida Scudder eventually upgraded her medical school to the Christian Medical College, in 1938.
