Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology  [IIEST] Shibpur, Howrah, is a college controlled by the Council Of National Institutes Of Technology. It is a public and research university located in Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal which is recognised as Institute of National Importance under Ministry Of Human Resources(MHRD) by the government of India

IIEST was established in 1880 as an Independent college. Later the college was renamed as Bengal Engineering college in 1921 which was affiliated to the University of Calcutta. At that time the college only had two departments: civil and mechanical. Later many courses were added and the latest course added by the college is Aerospace Engineering and Applied Mechanics in 2010. On October 1 the college became an autonomous college. It was formally inaugurated by A.P.J Abdual Kalam, the former president of India as Bengal Engineering and Science University. The college was later transformed under INT  and was named Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in March 2014.

The admission procedure in engineering programmes for UG is through JEE Main and for PG courses it is through GATE. Students from any departments other than architecture are allowed to change their programme towards the end of first year and also can opt integrated courses such as B-Tech – M-Tech with 10 semesters by following some of the terms and conditions provided by the institution. For MSC joint entrance screening test and Ph.D is through online application.
