National Institute of Fashion Technology which is also known as NIFT Kannur was established in 2008. NIFT is located in Dharamshala, which is outside Kannur city, Kerala, India. Campus is located 16 kilometers away from Kannur and 6 kilometers from Taliparamba Town. This institution is one among 17 campuses of NIFT. The campus is situated in a 10 acre land provided by the Government of Kerala. 

The institution started functioning in a temporary campus in 2008. Later it was moved to a new campus in 2012, where the college is currently present. The college has a good infrastructure. They have all the necessary facilities within the college. They have an 8 floor Academic block with large classrooms. They have modern computer labs, Pattern making labs, Garment construction labs, along with all of these they have a photography studio. They have a workshop block, where they experience hands-on work in the weaving, textile processing, printing and material labs. They also have a resource centre where they can have all the information online or offline.

College has five undergraduate programmes with a duration of four years and post graduate programmes with a duration of two years. The courses offered by college is a follows:

• Bachelors in Textile Design

• Bachelors in Knitwear Design

• Bachelors in Fashion Design 

• Bachelors in Fashion Communication 

• Bachelors in Fashion Technology 

• Masters in Fashion Management 

• Masters in Design 

Admission procedure is through a common entrance test. Mainly there are two entrance tests, which candidates need to clear and they are General Ability Test(GAT) and Creative Ability Test(cAT). Students who clear this test are called for a situational test. On the basis of final ranking usually a group discussion and interview is conducted for post graduates.
