National Institute of Technology [NITC], which was known as Calicut Regional Engineering College (CREC) until 2002 is located on the north east part of Kozhikode – Mukkam Road. The college is a public technical university as well as an Institute of National Importance by the NIT act passed by the Parliament of India. NITC is one college among the National Institute of Technology.

The college was established in 1961. It is situated 22 kilometers North East of Kozhikode. In 1961 the college started as an Regional Engineering college and was affiliated to Kerala university. The classes were held at the government polytechnic in the west hills. In 1963, the institution was moved to a new campus, where college is present now. The college started with 125 students in the undergraduate programme. Later intake of students was increased. The training and placement cell provided various opportunities for the students, so they get recruited. In 1987 the college celebrated its 25th anniversary and Postgraduate programmes were introduced to the college. The college provides everything for their students. They have hostel facilities for both girls and boys. Around 13 hostels are there for the students, where first years are provided with special hostels. All the hostels have mess facilities and students are allowed to join any mess except first year students. The college provides apartments for their staff also. The college provides internet facilities for their students, which are always connected. Also the college provides them with an area for Gymnasium, swimming pool, an open theatre, outdoor sports etc. They have a well established library, which is one of the largest technical libraries in India with more than 100,000 books. They also provide more than 200 journals for the students. They also have a digital library, which provides them with online resources.

• Master of Science.

They also have Ph.d programmes in engineering and science courses. The admission procedure for undergraduate students is through Joint Entrance Examinations. But students who studied outside India for more than two years can apply through DASA. For M.Tech and Ph.D admission procedure is through marks scored in GATE. For MBA admission is through marks scored in Common Admission Test (CAT)
