According to Dr. BR Ambedkar, "One of the main functions of universities is to provide opportunities to provide higher education to the needy and poor." He gave the mantra that education is the only means for the full development of the poor and underprivileged.

He firmly believed that through education, everyone could attain the highest position in society. Inspired by Dr. Ambedkar, the honorary chairman Dr. Madhukarrao Vasnik (formerly MLC) went a step further and founded the Welfare Association. One of the largest and best-known educational institutions for underprivileged people in North Nagpur.

Northeast Nagpur in the '60s was a challenging task. The public in this area had little awareness of education as they live hand-to-mouth. Gradually, a change took place for people as institutions offered a variety of opportunities, including reading rooms, scholarships, and affordable education. In 1980, the university moved from the old building to a new building just a few meters away. The increase in university enrollment at the expense of many other facilities such as YCMOU, sports, NSS and more has taken it to a new milestone and currently serves more than 4,000 students in middle and high schools.
