About the College

The College of Teacher Education (PGT) Shillong aspires to develop a comprehensive, integrated curriculum of teacher education through quality, dedication, and service. The College of Teacher Education (PGT), formerly known as PGT - Post Graduate Training (College), is situated in the centre of Shillong. In order to honour Swami Vivekananda's 100th birthday in an effective manner, the seed for this teacher training college in Shillong was planted during his centennial year (1963). The College was among the earliest establishments in Shillong, the then-capital of undivided Assam, dedicated only to teacher education. It was established on March 19, 1964. The National Council of Teacher Education has acknowledged the College (NCTE). Maximum student engagement is achieved via the institution's substantial use of ICT in teaching and learning, combined with participatory and activity-based teaching methods. Additionally, monthly workshops and class lectures are held. The College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong has a strict feedback procedure in which student-teachers' opinions on the effectiveness of the faculty and the facilities are routinely obtained. The College consistently makes attempts to give in-service training to the untrained teachers of the East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, and Ri-Bhoi districts of the state of Meghalaya, in keeping with the goal of the Institution. Through education and training imbued with a vision to serve the community with zeal, commitment, and devotion, the College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong, is primarily focused on developing compassionate, professionally excellent, and ethically sound teachers who will be torch bearers of society and civilization.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Education [B.Ed] programme, a candidate must have achieved their bachelor's degree with at least a 50% average.
