Bodh Gaya or just Gaya is known for its association with the enlightenment of Gautam Buddha hence the place has established itself as a learning platform for those seeking wisdom and intellect. Apart from the land of wisdom, the Gaya and in fact the state itself is known for producing eminent scholars and excellent mathematicians, Gaya is also a niche for learning of modern science and technologies. The state has continued its legacy of constructing famous universities. One such is Gaya college of Engineering. It is a public state university which was established in the year 2008. The college was previously known by the name of Magadh University which was established in the year 1958 and was functional till 1994 but later the university was revived to its current status, renamed and inaugurated by the then chief minister of Bihar, Mr Nitish Kumar. It is affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University, located in the capital territory of Bihar, Patna and has been approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The college covers an area of 87 acres covered by lush greenery and a nearly pollution free environment. The premise of the college is divided into two academic buildings, one workshop and accommodation for non local students comprising two hostels. The remarkable facility in the hostel is that each room is singly occupied. Also within the campus is a library with exotic collection of books of academic interests, novels of all genres, magazines and numerous journals. College provides four engineering courses under B.Tech degree that include- mechanical engineering, computer science engineering, electrical engineering and electronic engineering and mechanical engineering. Admission to all of them are given through the national entrance exam called Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) conducted twice a year by National Testing Agency (NTA). Looking beyond academics and breaking the monotony, college organizes several cultural and technical fest and sports meets. GRAVITON is the annual megatech fest and SUMEDHA is annual cultural fest celebrated here apart from regular celebrations of yearly festivals like saraswati pooja.
