IIM Ahmedabad, was founded on 11 December 1991, in Gujarat, with the unanimous support and agreement of the Government of India, the Government of Gujarat , Harvard Business School and by some of the famous members of the Indian industries. The founding director of this institution was Mr. Ravi.J. Matthai along with the joint effort of some prominent founding personalities like Indian physicist Vikram Sarabhai, industrialist Kasturbhai Lalbhai and an Indian educator Kamala Choudhary.

This institution provides the students with a number of full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate and diploma courses which eventually lead to a MBA degree. It also has tie ups with almost 78 business schools around the world. The institute also offers the students with dual degrees and one term exchange programs with International Business Schools such as  HEC Paris, University of Louvain, EDHEC Business School, University of Cologne,ESCP Europe, Emlyon Business School, Bocconi University and many more.

IIMA's addmission process is formed on the following criteria. One can apply for admission in the institute by the eligible CAT score which is applied on all courses and other than that the institute also accepts applications from entrance tests like, GRE, GMAT, GATE, ICAR-SRF and UGC- JRF.
