The Government of Assam established Jorhat Engineering Institution in 1960. It is a government engineering institution in Assam, northeast India.The college, which is affiliated with Assam Science and Technology University, has been accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education.The five four-year undergraduate degrees offered are Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, and Mechanical Engineering. Computer Application (MCA), Civil Engineering (Design of Civil Engineering Structures), and Electrical Engineering all offer master's degrees (Instrumentation and Control Engineering). It also offers doctoral programmes.

Candidates seeking Undergraduate Engineering admission must pass the Higher Secondary Examination, which includes English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects.
