About the college

Patharkandi College of Education is located close to the Indo- Bangladesh border as well as the inter-state border of Assam and Tripura in Rajbari Patharkandi, in the state of Assam. The institution was built under the guidance and aegis of Late Mr. Qumrul Hoque with help of local inhabitants in 1995. The college is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and is affiliated to the University of Assam situated in Silchar. The college has football, cricket, shot-put, for outdoor games and carrom board, table tennis etc. for indoor games. The library is well maintained and regularly stocked. At present it has 10000+ books, 477 journals. 1700 reference books, 66 encyclopaedias and also a number of magazines and newspapers along with computer facilities. The campus has an auditorium, canteen, departmental laboratories and first aid.

The college currently has 2 courses running, they are Bachelor degree of Education (B.Ed.) and Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) with an annual intake of 100 and 50 seats respectively.Both the courses expand over 2 academic years. The B.Ed. course is based on the semester system and has 4 semesters in total. Admission to B.Ed. is via a Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by Assam University in Silchar, the date for which is announced on the website. All the details regarding final interview/ counselling dates, availability of admission forms, last date of admissions is announced on the website itself. For admission to D.El.Ed., an admission test known as D.El.Ed. Pre Entrance Test (PET) is conducted by the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT), Assam. Eligibility

In order to be eligible to apply to B.Ed., the candidate must have passed graduation and/or post-graduation degree as per NCTE norms. In order to be eligible to apply to D.El.Ed. course, the candidate must have passed 10+2 and should be a resident of Assam state.
