About the college

Silchar Polytechnic [SILPO] is an institution located in Cachar, Assam. It was established in 1960. Its courses are affiliated to the State Council for Technical Education, Assam and the institute has been recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The founding vision of SILPO is to offer all the necessary academic and social resources to enable the best growth of students towards professionalism and technical prowess. Resources such as amenities offered are college library, online library, technology, laboratories, good quality classrooms, games and sports, magazine, Students Union, extracurricular activities, events, and many more. All the basic courses in the field of technological education are covered by the college. 

SILPO Admission 2024

Students can study the following subjects for the duration of 3 years, six semesters, of study: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. 

Eligibility

To be eligible for a course at SILPO, students must be an Indian and Assam resident. An upper age limit of 20 years is further imposed, and candidates are required to meet the standard of medically and mentally fitness. Academically, for admission at SILPO, a pass in the H.S.L.C or equivalent is required,  Mathematics and Science being the pre-requisites. For General candidates, the cutoff for Science and Mathematics is 40% marks while for SC/ST candidates, the cut-off ranges between 33% - 35% marks.

Process

An Admission test will be held for all candidates to take, conducted for all institutions of Polytechnics in Assam. The paper will be based on Science and Mathematics subjects and will be conducted based on information given by the DTE. Application forms are to be obtained from the institution. A payment must be made for the cost of the form. After giving the admission test, an interview will then be conducted. Once candidates have been offered a provisional seat, based on their interview and admission tests, they are required to pay tuition fees to secure their seat.
