Government College (Autonomy), a sacred shrine of Sharadadebi, was founded in 1948 to meet the educational needs of local students. It has grown over the years and gained an autonomous position in 2005. It is a great honor for the University of Mysore to grant Mysore an "autonomous status" with the approval of UGC and the Government of Karnataka. See order number CDC: B: AUTONOMY: 28: 1992-93 dated June 8, 2005. It is a great honor to be the first Autonomous Government University in Karnataka. After gaining autonomy, the university launched several new courses / combinations and developed its own curriculum. Various committees have been formed according to UGC guidelines to ensure the effective functioning of autonomy.
Evaluation plays a central role in the activities of self-governing bodies. Therefore, the audit department is formed with the necessary infrastructure under the guidance of the audit manager and the support of the audit committee.
The university became a graduate center and co-educational institution from 2007 to 2008. The current strength of the university is about 2800. Most students come from rural areas. In its picturesque location, the university offers a feast to the viewer's eyes. Bangalore-Very close to the Mysore motorway. Since it is located in the viewpoint, anyone can easily access it.
The university has a variety of electives at the UG level, a master's degree in physics, a master's degree in mathematics, a master's degree in Comp, and BA, BSc, BCom, and BBM degrees. Master of Science, MCom, PG level political science. The curriculum is based on the guidance and suggestions of experts in this field. Modern requirements are taken into account when designing the curriculum. Because the university is autonomous, the courses have their own curriculum. the institution will also consult with stakeholders at other universities and incorporate their suggestions into the curriculum design. Student feedback and evaluations by external institutions such as the Academic Audit Committee are aimed at improving existing programs and providing new ones.
Activities in and around NCC / NSS are several dissemination activities carried out by the college. Blood donation, AIDS awareness programs, anti-terrorism Jathas, maintenance of green areas inside and outside the university, recruitment of villages, and implementation of hygiene development activities as part of the annual NSS camp are part of the university's dissemination activities.

Candidates applying for Master Degree shall have obtained a minimum of 45% (40% in case of SC/ST and category 1 candidates) of marks in cognate /optional subjects put together from all the years of examination of the course. For BCA, BSc (IT) BBM and BCom degrees overall (except languages) percentage will be considered. However, deviations, if any are mentioned in the table below against specific courses. In case a candidate has taken longer than the prescribed duration to pass the qualifying course, a deduction of 3 % from the aggregate percentage of marks of cognate/optional subjects for every additional year shall be applied and the candidates should have obtained the minimum marks prescribed even after such deduction, to become eligible for admission.
