Indian Institute of Technology New Delhi (IIT Delhi) is a public technical institution and research university. It is basically located in Hauz Khas in South Delhi, Delhi, India. Among all the IITs it is one of the oldest Indian Institute of Technology in India. The institution was formally inaugurated on 17th of August 1961 by Prof. Humayun Kabir, Ministry of Scientific Research & Cultural Affairs. This college was affiliated to University of Delhi. It ranks 2nd according to the NIRF Engineering.The chairman of this 60 years old institution is Dr. R Chidambaram with the director Dr. V. Ramgopal Rao. This institution has 654 academic staff with 8,703 students among which 3,793 are undergraduates, 2,141 are post graduates and 2,769 are doctoral students.

The candidates necessarily have to secure a minimum mark of 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th Class Examinations conducted by respective boards. There is a relaxation of 5% in this criteria for SC/ST. The programs offered in Indian Institute of Technology New Delhi are B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Tech + M.Tech (Dual degree), M.Sc, MBA, Ph.D, M.Des. Companies like Capgemini, Microsoft, Intel, Google, Goldman Sachs, Uber, Amazon, Flipkart, Mastercard, Deloitte, Qualcomm, KPMG, IBM, Dell, Wipro, Infosys, Absolut Data, Ernst & Young, Standard Chartered, Societe Generale and many others are the top placement  companies here. 

Sachin Bansal, Binny Bansal, Vinod Khosla, Raghuram Rajan, Sameer Gehlaut, Deepinder Goyal, Anurag Dikshit, Padmasree Warrior and many other well known personalities had been a student here once. Chetan Bhagat the famous  romance, fiction and non-fiction writer was also a student of Indian Institute of Technology New Delhi. 

In 2018 IIT Delhi was also given the status of institution of Eminence (IoE) by the Government of India which granted almost-full autonomy. According to a government statement issued earlier, these IoEs will have greater autonomy in that they will be able to admit foreign students up to 30% of the admitted students and recruit foreign faculty up to 25% of the faculty strength with enhanced research funding.
