St John's Medical College was founded in 1963 as a public medical college governed by the Catholic Bishops’ conference of India. This institution is affiliated and approved by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore and by the Medical Council of India (MCI), respectively and graded 'A' by the NAAC.
