Established in the year 1984 in Killikulam , Thoothukudi, TamilNadu Agricultural college and research institute also abbreviated as ACRI is the third constituent agricultural college under Tamil Nadu Agricultural University which is affiliated to the same university.   ACRI holds the unique status among colleges as a leader in research and innovation related to agricultural prospects which accounts as the major occupation of our country. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the same field.

ACRI stands out among any other colleges due to its dedication and encouragement to research related aspects of agriculture which are very instrumental in improving the quality and quantity of the crop thereby increasing the production and meeting the demands of the growing population of our country and also skyrocketing the surplus of our country.

The college offers seven courses for the same field which are very fresh and exciting courses with high market demand . It includes agronomy , plant breeding and genetics , soil science and agriculture chemistry , horticulture , agriculture entomology, social science , plant pathology and farm management . For admission to undergraduate course i.e. B.Sc (agriculture) which is of 3 year duration , candidates are supposed to apply online via its official website but should meet its criteria of class 12 merit and for the admission to postgraduate course university selects students on the basis of marks acquired in the test conducted by the university. The duration of the course is 2 years . Application fee for undergraduates is 600 but 300 for SC/ST and for postgraduate is 1500 and 1000 for SC/ST.

The college offers various scholarship schemes like Adi dravida welfare scheme, Periyar empowerment scholarship , State government free education for students from non graduate families and above all students also get scholarship along with fellowship by Indian Agricultural and Research Institute(ICAR).  College has also been known for its numerous  national and international collaborations . It has also maintained an equally outstanding  placement record. Its various alumni have been employed at both corporate and public sectors serving the society and catalyzing the development of the agricultural field and some choosing entrepreneurship over conventional job options.
