About the college 

Arignar Anna Government Arts College is situated in Villupuram. The College is a Government Higher Education Institution, managed by the Director of Collegiate Education, Chennai. This College was started in 1968, and it was inaugurated by the pass Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Dr. C.N. ANNADURAI popularly known among Tamilians as “ANNA”. In order to cater to the candidate of local people, the Government of Tamil Nadu started this college or educational institutions in 1968 and 320 students enrolled in pre-university courses. In 1971, Under Graduate courses such as B.A. Economics B.A. History, B.Sc., Chemistry and B.Com. were started. This College has been catering to the needs of the people in and around Villupuram district, those people who are socially and economically backward from the society. Most of the students of the college of past and present are first graduates of from poor families. The college gives more contribution to the country by educating poor students. This college was volunteered to under go the quality assessment by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) by 2004. In 2005 the NAAC visited the college and took an assessment and then accredited the College with C+ Grade.
