Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai is a government university operating at central level controlled and looked over by the ministry of Shipping, government of India.

It came into existence on 14 November 2008, through an act of parliament (act 22). Since then 14 november is been recognized as IMU day every year.

Headquarters of this university are in Chennai and it has its different campuses in mumbai, kolkata, visakhapatnam, chennai and cochin.

The courses provided are in Diploma, Degree, postgraduate diploma and post graduate degree courses in Nautical science, marine engineering, naval architecture,  ocean engineering,  ship building & repair,  maritime management,  doctoral programs and post sea courses.

4. MBA in port and shipping management 

5. MBA in international transportation and logistics management 

6. BBA in logistics, retailing and e commerce

The infrastructure facilities provided are quite impressive. Air conditioned classes with audio visual facilities are there. Fully equipped machines are there to provide off the job training to the students. 

Short term training courses, seminars & workshops, certificate courses, orientation courses and tailor made programmes are being offered to the students.

Consultancy and research facilities are being put on special focus as well. They also provide residential facilities with a capacity of 250 students.
